Aisling Meehan from Newmarket-on Fergus in Co Clare is the recipient of the 2011 Nuffield Scholarship sponsored by the FBD Trust.
Her study topic is “Access to Land for Dairying – New Legal and Tax Models in an Irish Context”.
Aisling is a practicing solicitor, specialising in Agricultural legal and tax work. She is also a qualified young trained farmer. She comes from a family which were pioneers in grass based dairy system, as well as innovators in off-farm enterprises.
The availability of suitable land at sustainable prices to increase production and achieve economies of scale is an ongoing issue for dairy farmers. Aisling believes that expansion in the agricultural industry can be facilitated through appropriate legal and tax structures.
Aisling intends to travel to New Zealand, United Kingdom and France.
