From Co Kilkenny, Amii Cahill has been awarded the 2011 Nuffield Scholarship, sponsored by the Irish Farmers Association / Irish Farmers Journal.
Her study topic is “Dominance, competition and consumer demand – The impact on meat protein producers”.
Amii is Executive Secretary of the IFA National Pigs & Pigmeat and Poultry Committees. In this role she is responsible for representing and promoting the interests and commercial aspects of pig and poultry producers.
Over the past 20 years the proportion of the retail price received by producers has diminished considerably. Retail dominance and the insistence by retailers that welfare, environmental and price conditions be met by suppliers in order to gain access to supermarket shelves are issues that she will explore in her study.
Amii intends to travel to Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, North America and Brazil.
